According to the Ethiopian Reporters online edition, a page (page 51) from the 11th grade histroy book that carried a cartoon drawing of the Prophet (pbuh) is to be removed. This was decided by the Ministry of Education after nation wide condemnation of its inclusion in the book. The last Prophet of Islam has no picture and it is forbidden to draw cartoons of him. The decision to remove the page is to be welcome. However, it remains unclear how it was included in the first place. Further, it arose questions on the correctness of the information included in the book about Islam.
Ethiopia has unveiled a new history book for students of grade 11. The Book which is in English carries a cartoon on page 52 what it claims is Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as it entered Medina and was welcome by the people of the city. The book came known first amidst Muslims, in Jijjiga, and later found in the capital and other cities across the country.

The Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council expressed support to the decision passed by the House of Peoples’ Representatives concerning the threat posed by the extremist leadership operating under the Union of Islamic Courts in Somalia against Ethiopia.
The Council said the war declared on Ethiopia by the extremist leadership in the group has no Islamic basis.
Council Secretary General, Hadji Yusuf Ali told ENA yesterday that the council applauded the efforts made by the Ethiopian government to find peaceful solutions to the problem being created by the extremist leadership.
