As of next week Salafiya and al-Juma’a newsletters will also carry the questions the delegation presented to the PM to their readers.

In its last Friday’s appearance (June 01. 2007 or Ginbot 24. 1999), al-Quds a weekly newspaper, the only existing Muslim newspaper I know, confronted its readers with a sensational item that brushed one of the issues that currently occupy an important place in the minds of Muslims around the world - the delegation of Ethiopian Muslims in Diaspora that was on mission in Ethiopia in the month of April. The delegation had as objective to discuss and reach to understanding with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia and other high ranking officials on outstanding problems the Muslim community is facing in its effort to enjoy its civil and religious rights as enshrined in the constitution. From various press releases of the delegation and from people whom I have contact with and very much close to the working of the delegation, I came to know that these discussion points were formulated after a painstaking work in the months leading to the mission’s departure to Ethiopia. This included close review of the day to day performance of the Majlis, the general developments in the country, the various religious related crimes perpetrated by enemies of peace, tolerance and co-existence. They had also intensive consultation with Muslim intellectuals, activists and citizens who are very much concerned with the Muslims’ issue and the well-being of the country. In short Muslims within Ethiopia and in the Diaspora were allowed to participate and worked vigorously to put their concern in the document we already got the privilege to read online and analyse. Having said this much, from my little knowledge, as background information on the delegation, let me continue now commenting on the opinions expressed in al-Quds.
