The grand Mosque of Jimma town - Fatih Mosque was attacked by a Fundamentalist Christian on Monday 26.03.07. At the time of the attack, Muslims were standing for Asr (afternoon) prayer. The assailant entered the Mosque with his shoes on and began attacking Muslim and disrupted their prayers. He was caught and beaten by the congregation. Some among the congregation intervened and took the day light criminal to hospital.

During this happening the microphone of the Mosque was open and the disturbance in the mosque could be heard from far.  People who were believed to be on waiting to join him in his criminal act had fled away with out being caught. Police arrived later on and calmed the situation.

The assailant died later while receiving medical treatment.
